Big Bear Valley Recreation & Park District is our property supporter. Working with San Bernardino County Flood and Control, Parks & Rec were able to secure the grounds on a long term land use permit.

The City of Big Bear Lake helped us locate our current location. With the help city planning and especially Cheri Haggerty on our committee, the organization and planning of the gardens developed quickly.

Hey.... It's 2024 and exciting news happening!
Robbie Bos is retiring from the gardens. And some say it's about time!
The "A Garden Club" will be taking over daily operations of the gardens.
Randy Wilson will be the man in charge and organizing his team. Randy's new title will be "Plant Manager". Randy has had a bed at the gardens this past year (2023), and knew Robbie wanted to retire. He put his efforts into making this happen by extending a hand to the local A Garden Club and the club was thrilled to take over logistics. Thank you Randy for being such a warm and caring guy!
Looking forward to the new leadership and improvements here in the gardens.
Over the years, we have had so many individual and group volunteers, that we need to say "Thank You" for your helping hands. We have also distributed thousands of pounds of produce to the community and organizations. a huge pat on the back for everyone's efforts and help.

2012 POST
We are happy to announce that the spring of 2012 will be a huge step forward for Big Bear Valley's first community gardens. Fencing material has been purchased, and will be installed at snow melt. Approximately 12 raised beds will be installed also - meaning vegetable crops will be growing as the balance of the gardens is being constructed.
Our garden committee is currently working on raising "building money" so that we can complete all the growing beds and water needs. Our goal is to have all 47 raised beds, 750 square feet of food pantry growing beds, and the fruit orchard completed before July. Fundraising and donations are the focus right now, so keep your eyes and ears open for events happening this winter and spring.

Our "China Garden" Location
Next to CVS, on Fox Farm road, is the location of our first community garden site. It was naked and weed free at the time this photo was taken. The summer of 2012 will have this place hopping and growing. Full perimeter fence, entry gate, and people growing food. Very exciting!
Ground Breaking Ceremony
Here is the group of officials. Robbie Bos, community garden president; Neil Derry's son; Neil Derry, Third District San Bernardino County Supervisor; Bill Jahn, Mayor Big Bear Lake; Liz Harris, Big Bear Lake City Council; Rick Herrick, Big Bear Lake City Council and KBHR Radio owner. Yes, here we are turning dirt and smiling on location at the communities first garden site, "China Gardens".
